Have you tried rolling back to a previous restore point?

DENNIS
Yes tried to restore, but wont, sp1 takes over and stops the
restore?Thanks anyway

BOB
The problem is , this things in my face when i switch off "Configuring
updates do not switch off computer" then when i switch on "Installing sp1 3
of 3 0% " But it's not done it's "Pending" it just goes on and on in a
vicious circle. And dont forget my poor old CPU'S They'll be worn out before
me! CHEERS

Well first of all, your CPUs running at "100% half of the time" will not
"burn them out", so calm down.

But it isn't normal, is it?
If SP1 won't install, why do you need to uninstall it? What exactly
is the problem. More details, please.

SP1 won't install, of course!
Alias, the self appointed jackass troll of this group, will be along
shortly to NOT help you.

If the OP really wants to solve his Vista problem, he will nuke Vista
and install Ubuntu. Ubuntu, a free Open Source operating system without
the hassles of a POS like Vista, can be obtained from http://www.ubuntu.com/

The chat support is horrible. I log on and get connected with an agent, he
receives my first or second message and then it fails. Tried two times.
Whatever chat software they are using, needs to be changed. It's very
frustrating.

Ubuntu won't do any good for anybody. It will just annoy the user. If he
has an issue with Vista, he can reinstall then upgrade to SP1 and if he
still has issues he can use XP. Telling someone to use Ubuntu is pretty
damn stupid. Ubuntu is for geeks who like to tinker and Alias who can't
figure out what to do with a computer anyway.

Now go attend to your "3 companies"! That should keep you busy for the next
4 minutes.

You must have retention problems. I have told you many times that I not
only installed Ubuntu but it didn't take me very long to figure out that
Ubuntu was just a TOY OS for geeks. To get the "heavy lifting" done and
real work done, I need a REAL OS like Windows.

Now, try and remember this, if you can't print it out so next time you say
that I'm too stupid to install Ubuntu, you can look at the post and realize
that Alias is too stupid to remember. Oh yea, that is Just FYI

And one more thing. Before you respond with, "I can't remember what
everyone does", well, that response won't hold water. Your goal is to
pester me and Frank so you DO remember.

Liar, you were all over the Ubuntu newsgroup whining about how you
couldn't install Ubuntu.

Go here, download the full standalone install;
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6d-5ebb-413b-89c9-cb3d06d12674&DisplayLang=en

Boot into Safe Mode (F8) and start the install from there.

I've used this method on three different Vista machines,
two desktops and one laptop..... it has worked flawlessly.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. I could install it but Ubuntu was just a lame piece of
junk.

So your doctor said to stop running 10 miles a day. What you probably mean
is that the doctors think you are too dangerous to be outisde and have you
confined to the institution.

Direct quote from Alias on his first Linux experience:

"Hmmm, more complicated than I thought. Which one do you recommend that
doesn't have so many driver problems, MP3 problems and can import mail
from OE?"

No, that isn't the reason, your lame imagination notwithstanding.

Ignore the title and use the Methods laid out here:
The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the
computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista
