Is it integrated inside the Vista OS?

Is this a service?

Is it a .Net "app" or service? In other words, does it require the .net
framework?

sidebar.exe is an executable located in the C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar
subdirectory.

It does not run as a service from what I've seen.

Dunno if it requires .NET - but I wouldn't think so, since it comes on
systems without the .NET framework installed AFAIK.

Sorry to say it but you're incorrect.

Vista comes with .NET 2.0 & 3.0 preinstalled as well as compatibility layers
for .NET 1.0 & 1.1

They're all there, and yes Sidebar does use part of the .NET 3.0 framework.
