Where can we get this alleged "Vista Score" for our computers?

What software do we need to run?

Thanks.

Thanks!

They seem to run from 1.0 to 5.9.

Did one guy here say he had a "Vista Score" of 44?

4.4?

Good grief, attempting to refresh the Vista Score requires UAC permission. I
mean, come on! It's a benchmark people. A BENCHMARK!!! If this doesn't show
that UAC is bothering us for the most trivial menial ridiculous tasks, then
what does. I'm sorry, my head is about to implode from these constant UAC
interruptions about the most unimportant of trivial tasks.

"UAC stops unauthorized changes to your system" ... The benchmark results!
The Horror! The Horror! Someone could sneak in and update the benchmark
results on my PC without authorization. Thank God I'm running Vista rather
than XP. With XP I used to have to sleep at night with one eye open to make
sure some family member wasn't sneaking around here updating benchmark
results without permission.

FWIW, my numbers are:

CPU 4.9 (Core 2 DUO E6300)
RAM 5.5 (Corsair VS DDR2)
Graphics: 5.9 (ATI Radeon X800)
Gaming Graphics: 4.9 (ATI Radeon X800)
HD: 5.9 {3ware SATA raid or MOBO PATA, depending on what Vista things my
"primary hard disk" is)

Is there a site where we can compare ourselves to other users?

Subject: Vista freeze up?

I notice a few times a day, Vista Home Premium will freeze up or at
least I think it is freezing up for 30 seconds or so. I notice the
hard drive light is lit when this occurs. Could this be the Vista
Index Service doing its thing? I have plenty of memory, a good video
card and a Vista score of 44 so I don't think it's my Dell Dimension
9100. In addition, I dual boot with XP and this problem does not
occur when XP is running.

What do you guys think? Thanks everyone

It does seem odd, but they have their reasons I'm sure. It may be just a
benchmark, but be aware that the number does affect what Windows Vista will
do. One small example is that with a graphics score below 3, you use the
Photo screensaver with themes. It just uses the default transitions. You can
alter that by changing the XML file in which it stores the score in under
c:\windows\performance\winsat...

Because of that, I suppose it could be said that winsat has the potential to
change the state of the operating system, and therefore needs administrative
privileges. Perhaps there is another explaination.

UAC is supposed to be about security. To me this is akin to saying I should
lock up my TV remote in the safe because someone might adjust the contrast
settings.

It need permission to access parts of your system in order
to determine the benchmark. This is reasonable IMO.

What??? To execute any application on the computer, Vista needs to use CPU,
disk, ram, and display -- the very same things the benchmark needs to use.

... I guess I should be thankful I don't get popups like "Microsoft Word
needs to malloc 13 bytes of memory. Allow or Deny?" ....

but cross posting a vista question to a xp news group is not asking for great help.

makes as much nonsense as your constantly posting vista questions is a NON vista news group.
maybe the idea someone has posted of sending complaints to your isp is a good idea.

It was removed from Welcome Center main screen before RTM. But you can
click "Show more details" and it will show you the score.
