Vista Questions

1. ReadyBoost, does it really work with usb memory sticks ? or does it need
some fast sd flash memory ?
and/or does it really work after all ?

2. Windows Vista defrag, Good or Bad ? (or) would a third party be better ?

3. Paging File, Shut off Virtual Memory for faster access, True or False.?

TIA

1. It works if you have 1 GB or less. And even then, it's trivial. Money is
better spent on more RAM. And yes, USB sticks work just fine.

2. It's ok. Not great. A third party app would be best. But, Vista's defrag
does work.

3. Keep the paging file. Windows needs it. Even with massive amounts of RAM.

Its not as visual as XP's but the way it works in Vista (running in the
background at all times) should provide continuous optimized system at all
times. I have been running Vista since November 2006 and have yet to
experience any Bit Rot and thats a good sign.

3. Paging File, Shut off Virtual Memory for faster access, True or False.?
I would still keep it on, even with 2.6 GBs of RAM, it will comes in handy.

Its not a real memory addition to the ram, all it does is indexes where
files are so that they can be found faster, and you need a usb vista
ready boost compatibe usb flash drive. For example I have a usb flash
drive but vista snobs it, saying that its not fast enough! So you should
make sure it says readyboost compatible if you buy one.
Ready boost does more for low ram systems than those with 2 gigs or more.

Vista defrag is stupid for power users.. there are a couple of free
ones... see this

False.?

NEVER turn off the paging file even if you have a terrabyte of ram!!!
