Vista Problem Reading XP Documents.

Ray

I have Word douments with graphics created in XP with .doc and .rtf
extentions and when I try to open them in Vista the Word program starts then
displays a message "Unable to convert graphic. Continue with document
conversion?" Clicking YES then opens the document without the graphic.
Clicking NO closes the window. These documents work fine in XP but not in
Vista. Can somebody tell me how to open these documents in Visat? Appreciate
any help.

I would like to give you a straight answer, but without knowing more about
the specific graphics it's difficult to say. Just for clarification, though,
VISTA is the most recent release of the Windows Operating System, so I'm
assuming you mean you're using Word 2007.

First, your description suggests you are double-clicking the files to open
them. Have you tried launching Word _first_ then using the Open File
technique instead? Do you get the same response?

It's possible that some of the embedded images are corrupted or that the
source format is in some way unreadable. If you still have access to an
earlier version of Word (as suggested in your post) you might try the
process suggested here:

http://www.gmayor.com/extract_images_from_word.htm

Close the file, then reopen it in that version of Word & Save As a .doc with
a different name. If that file still can't be opened by Word 2007 with the
images intact the process described on Graham's site will have produced JPGs
which you can then insert into the Word 2007 file to replace the originals.
