As Win7 doesn't include Windows Mail and as Windows Mail is basically a
flawed Mail Client, Win7 is better than Vista.

Absolutely. I've upgraded all three of my Vista computers to
Windows 7. Vista seems sluggish compared to Win7.

Yes, same amount of RAM. The laptop I use most often (this one)
has 2.5 GB. The others have 2.0 GB each.

I installed Win7 Ultimate 2 weeks ago and am seriously thinking about going
back to Vista - all manner of niggles that just should not be there,
especially when all my hardware is no more and 6 months old
