Hello all and thanks in advance for any help.
When I close Mail the little notification box pops up and asks to compact
mail, after a few seconds the next box tells me an error has occurred a DEP
has stopped the process.
Should I turn off Norton before allowing this program to run?
I ran windows updates last night and had 5 or six updates within windows.
I ran Norton live updates today's to update the virus portion, but I have
had this problem longer and just ignored it. Did Microsoft get a fix for
this it's happened since I bought this PC several times and once or twice a
update fixed it.

If someone could point me to the fix or update, I send you a
beer.............

There really haven't been any Windows Mail updates to speak of.
However, there are frequent updates to antivirus programs, which
have the potential for making the antivirus less compatible with WM.
It would be a good idea to turn Norton off while allowing the WM
compaction to proceed. If the compaction still gets an error, try
running the various repair functions in the WMUtil program:

If still no improvement, consider either uninstalling Norton, or else
upgrade to Windows Live Mail: http://download.live.com/wlmail

In any case, email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled,
for reasons explained here:

It's a shame that Symantec's Norton needs 'fixing' every so often.
You would think that people would get a clue...
