Vista Mail Suddenly Sluggish

S

Si

I noticed today that Vista Mail has suddenly become quite sluggish. It
starts OK but if I click on something in my in-box it takes a bit of time to
show up in the preview pane. Same thing if I click on one of my newsgroups.
It's usually pretty quick (I guess that's normal) and I haven't made any
changes to my PC. If anyone has any ideas why this has suddenly happened
then please let me know.

Cheers.

Mine has done the same thing.it used to be faster till one day a week or
two ago it became slow.It seems to move faster if you leave it open and
minimize then check the option to have it automatically check every few
minutes.This is really annoying!

make sure you have cleaned up your data base.
including a compact.
might use the WMUtil to delete ZERO length files and compact as well.

also some people report that opening calendar from WM speeds WM up.

That was weird. I opened up the calendar as you suggested and WM reverted back to it's normal speed. Thanks for that Mikey but do you have any idea why that worked?

Cheers.

That tells you that there's something screwy in the WM code.

Unfortunately it doesn't stick and you have to do the same thing each time
you open WM.

no idea at all, was posted by some others as a work around.

No, it won't stick.

Another poster named Winston originally discovered the
opening Windows Calender trick. Both he and I spent quite
a bit of time trying to figure out why this helped and the
connection.... never did. I have since moved on to Thunderbird.

Windows Live Mail is better than Windows Mail, and most
importantly- WLM is being actively worked on, WM is not.
However, WLM has two shortcomings that I can't tolerate-
no toolbar customization and the performance in handling
newsgroups is still horrible. Since I use Outlook for email, I
wasn't concerned with that aspect of the program. My biggest
disappointment and what I wanted the most from WM and WLM
was how terribly they handled large newsgroups. Unacceptable.
Thunderbird, at this point, is vastly superior than anything Microsoft
has to offer. Ironically, Outlook Express handled newsgroups better
than WM or WLM.

There are things to like about WLM- being able to retrieve Hotmail,
seems to handle email well, and it looks nice. There are a few other nice
things, but not enough to keep me using it, because it is practically
unusable for newsgroups when compared to Thunderbird. Maybe that
will change. At least they are still working on WLM.

Take care,

Michael
