Vista Laptop Does Not See 2000 Server

I have two desktops and a laptop. One desktop is running XP Pro; The other
is running 2000 Server. I do not have AD running on the server at the
moment. My new laptop is running Vista Home, with plans to upgrade to
Ultimate (as soon as I get bugs worked out with laptop manufacturer). All
three are connected via a Wireless Router.

My laptop is able to see shared folders and printers on the XP Desktop, but
cannot even see the 2000 Server. I try to ping by name and it does not know
the name. I can ping by IP Address and am able to see shared folders. The
XP Desktop has no problem seeing the 2000 Server by name.

Is there something I can do to see by name? I do not want to manually
configure a host address on the laptop. The server is my mail, web (website
need major overhaul), ftp, and print servers.

Any ideas?

Dave,

Check NetBT and all personal firewalls, to start.

How is the laptop "seeing" the XP computer? Network Neighbourhood? Or Network
Map?

Take a look at the logs from "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", from each
computer, and diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and
follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):
