Vista - is anyone there?

Hooi! I have had Vista Business 32 for 2 weeks. While I find it so similar to any other Windows application, it's okay. Some nice changes, but even more obscure methods to remove things, such as How do I get rid of the Microsoft feeds in the News Feeder Gadget? I am not interested in what Microsoft has to say, I want my local news service in there, plus a few others, and if I choose "All Feeds" then I get Microsoft's feeds too, but I don't want them.

The help file is typically unhelpful. The mouse problem referred to in so many previous KB documents has still not been fixed.

Even though on setup we tell Vista that our currency is South African Rand and our Time Zone is +0200, when setting the regional information we still have to redo the time zone. DUH! Also, MSFT ought to know by now that we do not use Letter Size paper but A4, and we use Arial fonts not Times New Roman, and so the grievances continue.

I have worked with Microsoft products since DOS 2.1.

This is not Microsoft. This is a user group. If you are addressing your
comments to MS you should do so on their website. If you are seeking help
from users like us then please rephrase as questions and try to ask one
question per thread. Thank you.

So everything works fine in the web interface FOR YOU. How about the other
saps who have PROBLEMS with it? What a BONEHEAD answer. Typical for a
douche bag like YOU.

Just FYI

Ian, this is not unique to SA, there are similar frustrations in the UK.
And it is not just Microsoft.

Back in the BBS days there were glitches in US written software that
related (for example) to phone usage. In the US local calls were free,
in the UK EVERY call was charged per minute. When auto disconnect wasn't
implemented or didn't work it could cost an arm and a leg :)

Of course now dial up is obsolete in most places that would be irrelevant.

But when I say it is not just Microsoft you have to remember that all
people tend to have their own "World View" and MS is primarily an
American company, so all the people who work there and have not had the
opportunity of working abroad will tend to assume that everyone else's
expectations are the same as their own. I see lots of differences in the
way things are done.

American Toilets are pretty standard and work better than British ones,
ie they are more reliable and a simpler design. On the other hand the
pipes running from them should be bigger (IMHO). American household
wiring however, despite being lower voltage, is not as good as British
wiring. Industrial wiring is about the same for both. In the UK black is
generally neutral - interesting results if you apply that standard in
the US where black is HOT.

But by far the most dangerous side effect of these differences is
forgetting that ALL Americans (Except I think those in the US Virgin
Islands) insist upon driving on the WRONG side of the road :) I have
tried many times to explain that driving on the right is wrong and that
left is right but nobody seems to pay attention, and being outnumbered
in the ratio of 360 million to 1 I don't have much expectation that we
shall ever get them to do it properly. Fortunately the big car makers
noticed this trend early on and began building their cars backwards to
allow for better visibility when driving on the wrong side...

In the UK a house will be either brick with concrete block inner walls
or it will be "Timber Framed". The Timber framed version will have
"Plasterboard" walls. In the US these would be called "Stud" walls and
the "Plasterboard" called "Sheetrock" or maybe "Drywall". In the US many
"Brick" houses are actually timber framed anyway :)

So you are not alone in your quest for uniformity, but frankly I don't
think things are going to change any time soon :)

I LIKE my HALF right down the midddle that way there's plenty of room for me
on both sides ;~}
