Vista installation

I recently bought Vista Ultimate and have tried to install it on my desktop
multiple times. The installation gets to 54% through "Complete Upgrade" and
then restarts. After this, it gets to the screen with a green progress bar
and copyright Microsoft Corporation but does not get past this.

Forgot about putting a question here... Does anyone know what might cause
this and anything I can do to fix it?

There may be a piece of software or hardware preventing it completing.
Disconnect all external hardware except for screen keyboard and mouse..

Hi Bryan,

In addition to Mike's advice about disconnecting non-essential peripherals,
if you refer to my post 'Clean Install windows Vista Using Upgrade Media',
also in this newsgroup (dated 9/21/2007), you should be able to solve your
problem.

Bryan,

Insert the DVD when the message comes up. I just successfully completed an
upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate using Windows Anytime
Upgrade. Of course there were multiple issues.

Please see the post - Vista won't complete installation by blank. I have
included all the 'things' I needed to do before I successfully completed the
upgrade. Hopefully it will work for you also.

Oops - my bad. Bryan ignore the first part about inserting the DVD when the
message comes up. That was from a different post, but the rest of my
response still stands :>)..

Hi, Bryan.

Details! We need at least a few details!

Like, at least a basic description of your computer: Make and model - of
your motherboard/CPU if you built it yourself? How many hard drives, what
interface (PATA, SATA, SCSI)? Was any OS previously installed?

Did you get a Full Retail copy of Ultimate or an Upgrade (from what)? Or an
OEM Vista Home Basic? 64-bit or 32-bit?

I can think of at least a couple of possibilities: trying to install 64-bit
Vista on 32-bit hardware, and trying to install onto a SATA hard drive
without the proper drivers. But there are many other possibilities and I'm
just shooting in the dark without more facts about your computer.

You can see your computer. We can't. All we know about it is what you've
told us. So far, that is just that it is a desktop. :>(
