One reason that Vista takes more space to install is the WinSxS folder.
The Side-by-Side Assemblies will take around ~3.65 Gigabytes of disk
space.

Meanwhile, a bootable Damn Small Linux ISO image is 50mb.

you apparently do not linux or you would be over playing with it instead of playing with vista.
