Vista Freezing

I have tried all the recommended solutions, Restore to a time when it wasn't
happening, got rid of McAfee Software, had Dell technicians remote in for
several hours 2x, had a friend remote in to look for conflicting software and
no one anywhere can find the problem. Ditto on freeze ups, opening e-mail,
writing a word doc, editing a pic, anything thing, anytime. o time frames but
it always happens once a session. I run Webroot virus/software, uninstalled
it and still had freeze ups. Dell is confounded. Sometimes get blue screen,
sometimes not. Anybody got any new ideas? Never had any problems like this
with any other computer and I'm mystified. I have 1964

Turn off auto restart in system properties/advanced system
settings./advanced/startup and recovery. You will get more useful
information to post back with. Error code and error message.

I respect Mark Ferguson tremendously. His posts are ALWAYS on point, and I
don't doubt him for a second.

Did the Dell Tech reps who "remoted" your machine check for hardware
problems - Hard drive? RAM? Motherboard?

I feel you should demand Dell send you a new machine under the warranty.
You shouldn't have to be putting up with this.

Hi: I haven't been getting blue screens for past few weeks since I dumped
McAfee Software, it seems that was a contributing problem. I thought we
almost made it with your lower resolution, which was set at high and I
dropped it to half until my weekly defrag (dell recommended) was running and
the freeze with stripes came right back. Any other ideas?
I'm going to try the other suggestions below and will post back. Aoppreciate
everyone's help. By the way, one Dell Technician suggested it may be a bad
spot on my hard drive I had an open ticket and have sent 2 e-mails but Dell
has not responded to either.

Hi Dave:
Well, I went there but i couldn't determine what I needed to download. Over
my head, can you recommend?

While not as good as memtest, you can use the one in Vista. Type the word
memory in the search box on the start menu and Select the memory diagnostic
tool above. Still you need to turn off your auto restart as I mentioned
above so you can get a better diagnostic code and message to diagnose your
problem

John: I turned off the auto restart thing & ran the memory test. I did get a
response that said:
Device PNPDevice ID Error COde
Microsoft 6to4 Adapter Root\*6TO4MP\0000 This device is not working
properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.

Since I turned off the Auto restart it hasn't been freezing up. Any reason I
need to turn it back on?
I have left it on all day and it's still not froze. Think you're on to
something here.

Thanks,

Glenda

Dave:

response that i copied. It's Greek to me but if you guys understand and can
interpret I'm appreciative!
