Vista fails to Install a printer over a peer-peer network

I am unable to install a HP 7310xi printer over a peer to peer network using
vista home basic on my laptop...trying the install using the laptop gives an
error message.."Windows cannot connect to the printer. The printer driver is
not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks NT 4.0
drivers"...The printer is connected to a desktop running xp home and a check
of the installation using the . I have tried to download the printer driver
compatible with vista onto my laptop but this makes no difference.
Interestingly the hp7310xi fax utility is recognized over the network. I
would appreciate anyones help.
