Vista desktop won't load !!!

I don't know how it happened. I've been using Vista for sometime. Then one
day, Vista Ultimate won't load after I logged into my account. (It said
Preparing destop) Then what I get is the desktop with blue background and a
mouse cursor. Could anyone give me some advice to fix this problem? I tried
system restore from the disc but I didn't have any restore point before and
the vista passed all diagnostic test. Any idea? please help asap.

Thank you very much.

Can you boot into safe mode and change the personal settings for the account
(like desktop background)? Sounds to me like a personal setting file got
erased or corrupted.

Hi there, bjBc. I skipped over several of your posts because I expected
only a semi-psychotic nut-case would be posting with a nym like yours.

I was very pleasantly shocked to find (eventually) that you are offering
very sane and solid advice.

Could I interest you in changing your nym to something a wee-bit more
mainstream? How about billy@micro$oft.com for example? Almost anything
would be an improvement!

gotosira,

I have exactly the same problem currently. I suspect that mine has come
about by accidentally having my VISTA partition letter changed whilst
resizing partitions under my XP dual boot system. If you hit CTR-ALT-DEL you
shd be able to open task manager (like I did). Run cmd.exe to get up a
command prompt box. Check to see if the default drive letter is the same as
it used to be.

My desktop won't load, my startup programs won't load and Vista only opens
to this empty blue screen like you. All my profile, apps etc are based on
V:\ but Vista now boots to H:\...

I reckon if I can get the Vista part of my dual-boot changed back to a V:\
dirve letter on boot, everything will "re-connect" and be OK again...

Any ideas anyone?

Striderlps.
