Vista, Dell, and Acronis True Image 11

When I try to image the hard drive on my new Dell Vostro 1000 with Vista
Basic, Acronis CD boots but goes to blinking cursor, with no further
activity.

Read something a while back about the Dell recovery partition giving
Acronis problems, but haven't nailed it down. Any help?

Do you have a space on a partition or drive which is large enough to take a
backup? The Dell recovery partition should not be used and is too small
anyway..

Rather than booting from the cd,
I suggest that you install Acronis
and start it from within your OS.

It will shut down and lock the drives
then clone upon restart

Had not planned on installing it, but guess I'll try it, thanks.

Was planning to image it to a LinkStation on my network, which has
worked fine with other computers. There's plenty of space.

1) What version of ATI?

2) Have you installed it yet? If so, have you tried imaging from
WITHIN Windows???

PJ White

I'll try that, thanks.

FWIW:
I have never had it fail when I've installed it.

Just be sure to follow the instructions well.

Whatever you do, be sure to disconnect the cloned drive after the cloning
process is complete

Just test the clone by putting it in place of your original drive

then set it aside once you've confirmed it's good

I don't see anything in the OP's post about "cloning". The OP wants
to image - IMAGE - the drive. Completely different situation and no
need to disconnect.
