Vista + copying data to a network drive

OK folks..

Vista Business Edition.

20GB data on C:\ drive.

Want to back this up onto Windows 2003 fileserver by copying to data
area on mapped network drive.

Network drive already contains this data though the PC version is more
up to date.

Network drive is 30GB, 20GB used and 10GB free space.

Want to copy the more up to date 20GB from the Vista PC and overwrite
the data on the existing data on the network drive.

I select all the data on the Vista PC, select copy and then I attempt
to paste it to the network drive.

Vista spends some time calculating the data and then says that there
isn't enough free disk space on the network drive, please free up some
space.

Uh ???????? What ????

Hey Vista, how about asking me if I want to overwrite the data already
there ?

Try exactly the same operation from an XP Pro PC and it asks me if I
want to overwrite the data on the mapped network drive..I say yes, and
away we go..
Go to the top of the class Windows XP !

Where am I going wrong with Vista ? other than the obvious answer that
springs to mind.....

You could always open a command prompt and just do a REPLACE command.
Make sure your network drive is mapped so REPLACE can access it as a driver
letter.

Could also try selecting all of the files that you intend to backup and
dragging them to the network drive. I just tried both methods with my network
drive and all worked OK. Vista prompts you if you want to "copy and replace",
"don't copy" or "keep both copies". Another option would be to try a test
case with some files first. It could have to do with the size of what you are
copying.

Hmm..

If I clear the network drive folder so that there is now 30GB free
disk space then it works OK..

I guess it's just a Vista thing I suppose..

Like I said, works fine from an XP Pro PC..
