Vista Build 5384: IE does not display web pages

Matt

Hi,

Just downloaded and installed Vista Build 5384 Home Premium on a Shuttle
SN41G2, all installed fine but cannot access the internet???

Most sites do not display at all they just sit loading, google only shows
the links for images groups etc, no search box. I've installed firefox
this does the same. Has anyone seen this before?

It's probably some thing I've done wrong, I thought that it might be
networking issue, but I'm able to copy data to the Vista PC, ping google,
and download the newgroups, so it appears to be in the html rendering
process as not of the help screens or windows update appear to work either.

Any ideas???

Thanks
Matt

Did you do an upgrade?

What are the Internet option settings?

do you have a proxy?

can you ping addresses outside your box? ie, is the network connection
working...

Hi Josh

Nope it was a fresh install on new HDD, I can resolve and ping external
addresses (DNS is OK), the first couple of lines of html code are downloaded
into IE (as the title appears on the browser), but then it just stops. The
same occurs if I try to download a file from the internet the first few KB
are downloaded then it comes to an abrupt stop. It's very bizarre!!

Cheers

Hi

I have exactly the same problem : google and all his domain' pages work, but
no others sites.
I think thats comes from my router (comtrend ct-633) because when I share my
connection from an other pc with this router i have this trouble but when i
share my connection with my old modem (sagem f@st 800) i have no problems?
anyone know why router bugs?

I'm also having this exact same problem and it is somehow related to the
router. I have this problem with one of our gateways. When I use it I can
get google ok but experience the same issues as the other posters with most
other websites. This is the same router that I used with XP perfectly and
that around 100 users currently use with XP just fine. So it's not the
router. I think Vista is doing somehting the router doesn't like. If I
switch to the other gateway/router I can browse the internet correctly. I'm
looking at packet captures to try to figure out what's going on...

weird...

If I go to http://216.228.113.53/ (which is nvidia.com) the page loads. If
I try to go to just nvidia.com it doesn't. I'm pretty stumpted. A packet
capture shows that http://216.228.113.53/ leads to a conversation solely with
216.228.113.53. If I go to nvidia.com it starts at 216.228.113.53 then
redirects to 168.215.49.24 (www.nvidia.com) and the page hangs. I'm not
familiar enough with low evel HTTP and DNS to know why one works and not the
other in this case...

I'm having much the same trouble. I use no router of any sort. I've shut
down the firewall that comes with Windows, I've no other installed. I've
shut down the Windows Defender, and I've no other AV program installed. I
can type in the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx number into the browser widow, and get there.
Putting in an http:// address goes no where. I've worked with the local PC
shop, the ISP, I've tried every possible setting they advised, to no avail.
I can connect to any other function, such as IRC or IM. I seem to log into
the ISP (password and username verified) just fine, but they can't talk to
each other. Like some piece of the puzzle is missing. Does anyone have any
sort of solution, or even a way to pin it down??? Thanks!
