Vista Boot Time

I have a dell vostro laptop. Intel core 2 Duo 1.6ghz with 3 gig memory. It is
slow to boot up. My old xp computer booted much faster and I was wondering if
there are any tweaks to speed up boot time. I have deselected non essential
programs in start up list.

Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks

Are all your onboard (and any attached) peripherals operating correctly? Are
you sure you've removed all the crapware that Dell put on the computer?
Often, slow boots are caused by driver issues. I don't think it's a Vista
thing, as I have an older Gateway Turion (1.8 GHz, single core) laptop
w/2Gig that boots Vista Home Premium in ~35 - 40 seconds. FWIW, I replaced
the XP Home that came on the Gateway originally, and it now performs better
with a clean Vista vs. a Gateway-tweaked XP.

Laptops are often set by default to not use all of the CPU power in order to
extend battery life. Take a look at your power settings..
