Vista 2 Beta is running fine except for the Sound.
I have onboard Sound AC97.

More information is needed. There are many different chipsets that use the
AC97 codec. Realtek, C-Media, Intel, Via, etc. The drivers are not all
compatible with each other. What is the make and model of your motherboard?

Hi Kerry,
My motherboard is an ASROCK, SN on M/Board is V6000DAP
It has a Realtek AC97 chip.
When using XP, I use WDM 390 Driver and this is OK, but it doesn't work with
Vista.
I have DL the Vista 6156 Driver from Realtek, but it puts it all in Unknown
devices.

Hope this helps

Hi Kerry
Its an ASROCK MB SN on board is V6000DAP
it has a Realtek AC97 Sound chip.
The WDM A390 drv works OK in XP but not vista.
The 6156 from Realtek installs it as Unknown Device.

Realtek has some Vista beta drivers here:

Is this the driver you tried? A lot of people are having problems with
Reatek AC97. You may have to wait until ASRock has a Vista driver. The
serial number doesn't help. What is the model number of the motherboard?

Kerry,

Does the "V" in V6000DAP stand for the VIA chipset? I have the ASUS A8V
mainboard, which comes with the Realtek AC'97 sound chip as well. Using the
default Microsoft Vista drivers, it works fine; however, it shows up as "VIA
AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller" in device manager. Not sure if this will
help.

The driver versions are:

ac97via.sys 6.14.01.3899 built by: WinDDK (VIA Technologies, Inc.)
drmk.sys 6.0.5384.4 (winmain_beta2.060518-1455) (Microsoft Corp.)
portcls.sys 6.0.5384.4 (winmain_beta2.060518-1455) (Microsoft Corp.)

I don't know what the V stands for. That is probably not the model number of
your board. If you Google for V6000DAP you get zero hits. It is also nowhere
to be found on the ASRock web site.

I was able to success install the drive for the USB device but MCE does
not recognize it.

Are you lost?

Are you using MCE or Vista?

This is a Vista forum, not Windows MCE!

Sorry, you said that was the serial number not the model number. I did not
read carefully enough. What model # and chipset does your MB have?

I got the drivers for Realtek AC'97 as an update from Microsoft. Works fine.
Please try windows Update.
