Vista and WPA connectivity problems

Hi,

I have a wireless router which I've been using for last 3 years with
no problem. My 3 years old HP laptop with XP on board can connect to
it using WPA seamlessly. Recently I bought a new HP laptop which runs
Vista and I can not force it to connect to the router using WPA. I get
the following error message:
"Wireless authentication failed because of a timeout". If I change the
protection mode to None or WEP then Vista does not have any problem.
For obvious reason I'm not going to resign from WPA.
I've seen a few post about this problem but no solution. Is there any
chance I can run Vista network stack in an XP compatibility mode?

thanks

Pawel

Thanks for info. I've tried 4 different approaches and it still does
not work and I get the same error message. I'm not really keen on
changing my router as it works with XP perfectly fine. The
communication is based on a standard thus I don't really get why Vista
has this problem. Do you know what might cause the problem?

thanks

Pawel

If you have installed the latest firmware for the router, you may try to
install Microsoft update. Please post back with the results.

I installed all of them and nothing has improved. At this stage I'm
going to call HP because this is going beyond a joke. Thanks for help.
