I've searched dozens of sites, read page after page of explanations and
followed dozens of suggestions. I still can't download using any of the 7
torrent downloader programs I have installed. Every time I start one of them
my connection to the internet is lost completely.

Is this working as intended? No one seems to have a definitive answer or
explanation, but if there is one I would truly appreciate a link.

There are a lot of Torrent apps that use a certain setting that is not Vista
friendly.

Did you try uTorrent Beta v1.7? Most Vista issues have been dealt with in
this version.

Yep...give it a try. uTorrent worked immediatelly with my Vista installation
and since I had XP its the most realiable torrent program for me, not like
BitComet or BitTornado that are slow and unreliable.

I Tried Azerus 3.0 and just like the other Torrent I tried I got the 'New'
Blue Screen of Death just as I tried to open a Torrent...

if it's fast for you, did you do anything special after you installed it? It
does work for me, but it is snail slow. (utorrent)

Dear Andrew,

Few points to check.

Are u directly connected to internet - if yes How via cable or ADSL

If not directly connected try setting fixed Ip for you machine . Forward the
ports use settings from www.portforward.com

and switch off the UNPN in Azerus/u torrent .

If directly connected check if your ISP supports NAT

Simple way to check is use Azerus 2.5. use instllation wizard and test the
connection it should report NAT ok.
now try some torrents if the ICON ayt the status bar is green NAT OK that
means u can get full speed if it stays yellow all the time U are out of luck
