Vista administrator password...

I just upgraded from XP Pro sp2 to Vista. After applying updates, my
machine no longer reboots -- it gives an "Invalid partition" error.

When I boot from the Vista DVD I'm asked for an administrator password. I
deleted all users but my personal account a long, long time ago. My Windows
account on XP had administrator privileges and a password -- only required
when I logged off and back on rather than restarting -- but that password
doesn't work here. If I just hit enter without entering a password it
continues but I suspect that, since it won't let me into the "Documents and
Settings" directory, that I don't have admin privileges.

Any help for this?

There may be more to this. I finally got past the boot issue and Vista is
coming up ok now. However, seems like there's always a "however" doesn't
it?

However, even though my account -- there's only two accounts on the machine,
mine and "Guest" -- shows as being "Administrator", when I try to run an
install program I get an error telling me that I need administrator
privilege in order to run an install program. It's pretty clear that even
though the account type is "Administrator", Vista doesn't believe it.

Any idea what might be going on here?

Thanks in advance,

Howard [on Linda's machine]
