Vista Activation HELP!

C

Colton Mathis

I installed the full retail version of Vista that Microsoft gave me for
being a beta tester. I got one product key (and an option to generate
more), and I am supposed to be able to activate 10 computers with one key.
Well, I can't even activate one!! So I went and generated another key, and
can't activate with that key either! It says that they are already in use,
but they are brand new! HELP!!

Colton,

If you look at where you get your from on Connect you will clearly see
this a
"Single Activation Product Key For Windows Vista ..."
NOT 10 machines - one machine only.
You will also see on Connect that you cannot generate more then one
key.
So are you sure you are looking at the right link and item on connect.
Just follow the link in the e-mail you received from Microsoft again.
If you have activated this key once before that is it. You will need
to telephone activate and explain the situation and ENSURE that you
are not trying to use the key on more then one machine.

Well that definitely isn't what it said when I downloaded it. They changed
it about a month ago.

Read the e-mail from Microsoft again.
It clearly states : "a" (singular), "retail" (most important bit)
"...if the machine on which you intend to install Windows Vista..."
(THE machine - again singular)

All of these tell you this is a single one time RETAIL product, not
any form of VLK for 10 activations - also Connect never said the key
was of r10 or gave you the option of generating more for the Retail
build you were allowed to download.
I don't know of anyone on the Technical Beta who thought otherwise,
except you.

The complimentary copy of Vista with license key for qualifying members of
the TechBeta program is good for only one installation. The beta copy keys
were good for 10 different machines. You are confusing things. It has not
been changed from when it was first announced.

Why it won't activate on the first installation I don't know. Right click
on My computer | Properties | Change product key. Will it take it there?
If not call for activation.

Yes it is. The day it went up on the server I remember the instructions
clearly stating that a second product key would not be provided. It is only
good for activation on one machine and only for the edition you choose, x86
or x64. You may uninstall one version and install and activate the other,
but you may not have both installed at the same time.

There is no need to call anyone. The information provided is
accurate.
