Vista: a 2mb zipfile takes 3 hours to extract then fails

Can't find the Vista discussion. Where is it?

Using Vista's inbuilt zip extraction it also seems to have no idea how long
the operation is going to take and makes wild stabs at the time - 2hours 44
minutes then 36 minutes, then 4 hours etc.

Using any 3rd party zip utility the same zip file extracts in less than 1
second with no problem.

File copying also takes ages using Vista. With XP it's fine.

This is all on my local machine's hard disk and not across a network.

microsoft.public.windows.vista.general, as well as a whole hierarchy
of microsoft.public.windows.vista.* groups.

Make sure that the system is fully updated, as Microsoft released some performance fixes lately. Here is one.

An update is available that improves the performance and reliability of Windows Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979

If this is a "Technet managed group" for WinXP, then what I gave is
the same for Vista.

Hi gocat2005,

See if you can install it via Automatic Updates. There may be other performance updates also.
