Vista 64 Taskbar Flicker

P

Paul J. Hurley

This is an older problem that seems to have returned to my machine. I have
my taskbar set to auto-hide, and every once in a while (not on a regular
basis that I can identify) the taskbar seems to very briefly blink into
existence then vanish. It's almost too quick to see, but it gets very
annoying as it can happen 5 or more times per minute.

The solution that seemed to work for me when I first encountered this
problem last year was to turn on the network icon in the system tray
section of the taskbar. But now the flicker is back and I'm not sure what
to try next. This is a heavily used machine and it's possible that
something has changed beneath the surface, but what could cause the taskbar
to "jump" is beyond me.

Any suggestions to what to look for?

Thanks
Paul

I had/have the same issue with Vista32 (nVidia video, Intel chipset.) I
did notice that Intel Matrix Storage Manager had an effect. One version
I had was really bad. I currently have 7.8, which rarely has a problem.

I think it's something to do with programs updating their icons in the
taskbar. I sometimes see it happen just as an e-mail comes in.

Thanks for the tip, Andrew. I tried installing the latest Intel Storage
Manager (8.6.1.1001) and it doesn't seem to have made a difference. I have
up to date nVidia drivers. I guess I'll have to live with the flicker
until have some more time to figure this out. :-/
