Considering upgrading to Vista 64-bit from Premium 32-bit. What problems
will I be running into with the 64-bit.

Check all your hardware for 64 bit drivers. Most of it will be supported,
but check printers, scanners, sound card, etc..

Also, it is going to be a wipe and a clean install, so make sure you back
everything up.

Same as with the alcohol - problems with drivers and crashes

Beforehand:

Make sure you have the designated 64-bit drivers for the hardware downloaded
and burned to DVD/CD-R beforehand. Backup important data and have any
pertinent information available e.g. product key numbers, ISP telephone
numbers etc.

Realize this is not an upgrade, it is a clean install .. so the drive
partition the operating system is going on should get wiped clean.

Problems:

Problems may include such things as software compatibility issues in some
instances, and hardware driver support in some cases. You may not run into
any of these as software companies and hardware manufacturer's have been
responding to the 64-bit platform for a while now. You can check the various
websites of these companies to see if you can indentify any
issues/solutions.

Benefits:

The performance benefits of 64-bit computer really only appear after your
computer has surpassed 4GB of installed RAM. Otherwise, with less than 4GB
RAM, mileage will vary as some apps are faster on 64-bit, some slower and
some about the same. You may have in mind a memory hungry 64-bit version of
an application that will fly on x64 Windows - which would be a real reason
to bother with 64-bits.

Note: The new Microsoft Office, for instance, runs on 64-bit Windows, but it
itself is a 32-bit program and it matters little whether you run it on x86
Windows (32-bit) or x64 Windows.

On x64 Windows Vista you should run into fewer virus/malware threats, but
nevertheless run a virus scanner and take all the precautions. There are a
number of scanners available for x64 Windows.

Saucy

Thank you all for your very valuable information, especially Saucy. Thanks
for taking the time to write it all out for me. You have made me make up my
mind to stay with the 32-bit. If it ain't broke, I ain't gonna fix it. LOL

Regards,
