Visited web page index & search - ISYS:hindsite, MantaDB, or ??

I am aware of two applications that index the contents of the sites
you visit, ISYS:hindsite and MantaDB. I lean toward hindsite because
it is being maintained.

Are there others?
Has anyone used or compared both?
Encountered problems?

ISYS:hindsite
http://www.isysdev.com/products/hindsite/index.html

- Set a rolling time frame for indexing.
- "Indexes every word of every web page visited - not just the URL".
- "Plain English" (natural language) queries.
- Displays "a structured tree outline of every previously accessed
URL. The result set from a query consists of the title of the web
document, its URL, the date and time the document was accessed, the
date and time the document was prepared, and the size of the document.
The result set can be sorted by any of the above categories."
- "Does not duplicate or store the pages, nor does it rely on your
browser's cache."
- "Freeware" (actually registerware with activiation) but phones home
for unknown reasons (see acf discussion; easily blocked).
- "Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer."

MantaDB
www.mantadb.com
(I can't reach this site today but haven't investigated why. Used
cached pages. "Overview" is main page (Surprise!).)
http://www.google.com/search?hl=&cat=&meta=&q=mantadb

- Scans "web pages as you view them and build a searchable index out
the words they contain." Automatic or manual scan.
- It "can scan [HTML or text] files on your disk" or "the contents of
the Internet Explorer Cache" if desired "as well as the pages ...[as
they] appear in your web browser."
- "Search by word or phrase".
- Provides several tools besides indexing.
Link collector & checker browser bar (similar to IE History)
Page DeFramer Page AutoRefresher
Font Sizer Sensible Colors
Personal Sidebar Internet Tools
- Requires IE. (?)
- Contains limited embedded (nondownloading) ads. which can be removed
in return for posting a MantaDB link. No ads now (acf post)?
- "The latest production version of MantaDB is v02.02 as of Sept 15th,
2000."

Thanks,
Bill

Many many years ago, when first released, I thought it so good I
purchased it. Very handy if some search criteria cannot be found in a
bookmark URL and/or description.

MantaDB

I wouldn't bother. According to ;

http://www.skali.com/mantadb/

it is adware.

Regards, John.
