Virus,Trojan,or Worm?

Hello,
On 5/31/04 I was viewing Winmx a file sharing program, when my machine went
to crazy. Desktop,and task bar gone only the outline of the buttons left.
When I used ctrl,alt,del to open task manager, to shut down programs and
reboot.There was a End Program, window, and
read End Program Hi!. all information will be lost if not saved. Not sure
what's going on . This is the first time since yesterday that I can get on
here. Din't want to take up too much room here but this has got my head
spining.
Help Please.

i assume you don't have a virus scanner - go and but norton's and load from
the cd to scan the pc

Has anything else out of the ordinary happened, are you using the
latest virus definitions for your A/V software.

If you don't have A/V software then stop and install your favorie.

Thanks for the help. I Have NAV it's p to date and also have ran HouseCall
and reports back that Computer is virus free.
Would software conflicts cause this? I just installed a new HD and CD/RW,
and have to have to format a new HD.
Can't boot into Safe Mode either.
