Virus Scanning Programs

Each time I open Excel, Word or any program my virus
protection is immediately scanning the program which is
creating a really slow start. Does anyone know how to
change this. I use Norton Anti Virus and they say it is a
Microsoft problem.

This is definitely not a Microsoft problem. Norton has a web page that

Nope, as Tim says this is a problem with the antivirus software not with the
OS or the applications.
