I have a virus that has infected two operating files on XP. My anti-virus will not remove them. What can I do?

Greetings,

Try booting in Safe Mode, then try AV again.

Or,
boot to DOS and use command mode AV.

(Tell us what files)

Special note if you use AOL:

America Online installs its own connection settings that override
the ones that come with Windows XP. America Online's
connection settings don't include a way to turn on Windows XP's
built-in firewall.

Visit the following web site for instructions on downloading
a FREE firewall program for your computer.

I tried booting in safe mode. It won't start because of the corrupt file, and says I must re-install.

I thought I couldn't boot to DOS with XP.

The files are msrexe.exe, and system32.dll

Thanks

These two files that you have mentioned are not system files. Can you go to
the location of these files and delete them ? Jym
