Based on personal experience, flip a coin. I have worked with both and found
them effective when installed properly and maintained correctly. I do favor
the Symantec product because I have found their program easier to maintain.
One caveat: stay away from Norton "Systems Works" and the McAfee equivalent,
just get their antivirus product. The other will bog your system down with a
lot of un-needed stuff.
Check PC World magazine. They did a good test within the last year or so and
you should be able to read it online. (I personally think that NAV works
better and is easier to use.)
I tried to answer you yesterday, but it didn't post. So please excuse me if
you see two answers. I suggested that you go to PC World magazine's website
and do a search on antivirus software. The did a good test of several brands
and had a lengthy article on it within the last year. You should be able to
read it on line. (I personally like NAV better than McAfee. I think it works
better and is easier to use.)
