I have XP and Internet Explorer 6. I had virus on my computer the infected my
internet files. Everytime I would try to go to certain websites at least 10
pop-ups would come up and then when I cleared them I couldn't access the
website I was trying to go to, it would just show a blank screen. One website
I have to enter a password to enter and when I would enter my password it
would keep going back to the log in screen. I installed a virus scan that
detected some viruses and said that it cleared them, but when I try to get on
those sites I couldn't access before the same thing would happen. My
temporary internet file keeps filling up with stuff. As soon as I clear it it
fills right back up withing seconds. Do I need to reinstall everything or is
there some other virus detection program that would work better?

Dude. You have spyware/adware.

This is like a virus, only they are legal because somewhere
in the process of catching it, you clicked on yes to the
license agreement.

Download and run the free version of Ad Aware from
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Here is a tip. Fire up Ad Aware, download the latest update,
then boot into safe mode and run the Ad Aware scan.

And, once you are all cleaned up, stop using IE. You have a
target on your back! Try Firefox: it is twice as fast, has
tabbed browsing, and is security hardened (it is much harder
to accidentally pick up spyware).

http://mozilla.org

If you suspect you still have a virus, take a trip over
to Housecall and run the on line scanner

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

If you decide to get Trends PC-cillian, I have had excellent
luck with it.

Johnson >>> DO NOT USE FIREFLY , its not faster then
internet explorer ... I will put my (IE6 browser )
computer against any computer that use's firefly and i
will bet my IE6 will beat any firefly by a few seconds...
Johnson >>> Don't listen to that garbage about Firefly
being faster then IE 6 it ain't true

Dude, you need to try the latest version. Older version were quite
a bit slower. You will love the tabbed browsing!

I'll second the 'Dude, you need to try the latest version' of Firefox... Its a
great browser compare to IE.

No Dude , I am telling you I have 4 computers , each with
xp pro retail version SP2 and I know for a fact my IE6
browser on my computer will beat any firefly browser ...
Dude , I do test on IE6, firefly and opera all the
time ... IE 6 is these fastest of them all so far...

I am using 3 browser on 4 computers ... Firefox 1.0 isn't
quicker then IE6 ... It might be on your computer , and
maybe you have an older computer or you don't have all
the lastest hardware , this is why you believe your
firefox is quicker but again not on my computer it ain't

Dude,

I have Firefox installed on around 200 computers, spread across
two counties (I am an on site consultant). Everyone, and I
really mean everyone, notices that it is faster. They usually
remark on it while I am showing them the new features.
Even AOL users love using it to go on to AOL. It is way
faster and is devoid none of all those stinking pop ups that
AOL love to inundate user with.

So far I have only had two die hards that just don't like it.
(different strokes for different folks ...)

And! they almost never catch viruses or spyware from
visiting an infected web page.

Why you are slower is a mystery to me. If you are having
a technical problem with it, try posting a description of
the problem on their forum at http://www.mozillazine.org. These
guys put a lot of pride in their work; I am sure they would
love to help.

I tried the tabbed browsing on several occasions - each time I uninstalled
as it gave no benefits at least to my view. Tabbed browsing is a personal
preference at best. JMHO

Okay fair enough but i am very happy with IE6 . In fact I
totally believe that IE6 is more secure then Firefox or
Opera ... The only reason why those 2 browser seem to be
better to others is basically because hacker are more
interested in hacking Microsoft product , Microsoft
wouldn't be knows as the giant software for nothing ..
Once hacker start hitting Firefox or Opera , then what ?
Do you really believe these other companies will keep
there user's when that does happen ?... I think I will
stay where there is top pros techs people in Microsoft ,
Sure Microsoft isn't perfect but hey I rather trust
Microsoft when thing does happen to go bad and they
haven't let me down as of yet, I been using windows
since 98 came out , So , So far its working for me . One
more thing my webpages load up within a second or
sooner ... I have a firewall , anti virus , spyware
stopper and spyblocker programs ... I never get any spam
or have i ever be infected with any spyware and
viruses... So why would I trust another browser when i
am very happy with IE6 ? If you have the right programs
running with IE6 , nothing can beat it and I would bet on
it . But like you say each have there own opinion and my
is Microsoft IE6

Here is were tabbed browsing is powerful. Go to your favorite
search tool and search on a subject of your choosing. Instead
on clicking on the results, right click and open them in a tab.
The first thing you will notice is that you don't loose your
search result when you want to go back to it (some web
pages won't let you go back). The second thing you will notice
is that it is really convenient to be able to compare what is
written on different tabs.

It is also convenient to load a project with several tabs in it
you are working on into into a folder. When you need to go back to
the project the next day, you right click on the folder, not
the bookmark, and open in tabs: they all pop up in tabs with just
two mouse clicks.

But, to each his own.

The main reason for Firefox is peer review (open source), which
makes it a lot more secure. Also, bugs, including security
flaws, are fixed very, very rapidly.

Just my experience.

And of course lets not forget the huge range of add-ons and enhancments that
go some way to making Firefox a serious rival to I.E.

Run these programs to check for spyware/malware. After installing
update them, then boot into safe mode and run them. You should update
and run them weekly.

After your system is clean use these programs to help keep it clean:

For viruses, start with Trend Micro’s Sysclean. Download it and the
signature file. Turn off system restore, boot into safe mode and run
sysclean. Boot back into normal mode and run a full AV scan with your
normal AV program. Then turn system restore back on.

addition to your regular up to date AV program:

can help eliminate enough threats to allow you to install and scan with
a full featured AV program.]
