Virus on Outlook 2000 email

Somehow I have a virus on my email and have received
several hundred emails between yesterday and today and
don't know how to begin to get rid of the virus.

Or, is there something that Microsoft sends out
automatically on a periodic basis that could be sent to me
to clear this up.

I have received some terribles replies swearing, cursing,
etc.
