Virus in Winupdate.exe

My virus scanner (McAfee Virus Scan) has detected a virus
in my Winupdate.exe program. I cannot delete or
quarantine this file and don't know what to do about it.

Any help would be gratefully received

Reboot the computer in Safe Mode and rescan your system. Or go to http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html and locate the actual name of the virus and follow the removal instructions.
