Virus in restore point ?

D

Dave INM

I am using Win Xp pro and AVG detected a virus (IRC/Backdoor,SdBot) and
quarantined it.

I thought it was gone for good but when I start my PC I get the following
AVG resident Shield warning ;

VIRUS FOUND IRC/Backdoor,SdBot
is found in file C System Volume Information \ Restore (and then a range of
numbers)

AVG does not appear to be able to remove this file, is it within information
contained in a restore point, and if so how can I locate it / remove the
virus

thank you

Dave

You have to delete the System Restore points.

Go to Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>System and click the "System Restore" tab.
Mark the box "turn off system restore" and apply/ok your way out.
Restart comp. All restore points will be gone, and so will the virus in the restore points.
Go back to the "System Restore" tab as above and unmark the box, this will turn system retore
back on. Restart computer again. Scan with AVG. If you're still getting the messages, post here
again and the real experts will point you to information regarding how to eliminate it. But
if it's only in restore, the above steps should fix it.

Dave

will
turn system retore to
eliminate it. But
Good old XP, the only operating system that can hug a virus to its chest,
protecting it from the software designed to get rid of it eh?
