Virus Check Shutdown

Hi, I hope you are having a great day.

Does anyone have any idea why my Compaq Presario Laptop
(XP Home) shuts down during virus checking? It happens
when I run Trend Micro's internet virus scan and Norton
Antivirus. After downloading profiles from Trend Micro
web site, I disconnect laptop from the Internet, then run
the virus checker. I run Norton, which is installed on the
laptop.

Both antivirus programs are not running at the same time;
however, a few minutes into either virus check, the laptop
just cuts off, no warning, no message. It's just like you
pull the power source.

They might not be running at the same time but they may still be interfering with each other
