D

driver

I use XP Pro. It runs on c. I have d, e, f, g paritions used for data.
Why would I ask any virus checker to check files on d, e, f, g ?
Always have, never thought about it. Now I need the time.
Any virus use other / data drives?
thanks

Because you may well have infected files on those other partitions that do sometimes get executed.

Most obviously with keygens in downloaded stuff.

Yep, they can do.

Because the virus-checker wants to make *sure* that there are no files there
that could be used to carry the virus further.

"data-files only" may *sound* nice, but I hope you are aware that many of
todays "data-files" are somethimes collections of both data and active
content (MS .DOC) ?

I could regard a .js file as data (it can't run on its own), but it
certainly can hold active content. And what about WMF (which had a huge
security-hole) or an SWF file ?
