Virus - can only start computer in safe mode

Wonder if anyone could help. My antivir picked up a problem TR/drop.agent.dgo.8 it seems to have something to do with windows/system32/pmkhh.exe
and c:documents\andrea\locals\temp\tmp5.tmp
the checker asks if it should delete/quarantine etc. i've always deleted. but now i cannot get on my computer. it keeps kicking out/shutting down. the computer is also making an odd ticking noise.
what can i do to get rid of the virus and get back to normal. this is only the second time today that i have managed to be on my computer for more than 10 mins
any help greatly appreciated

Best option if you can start in safe mode.
1. Start in safe mode.
2. Do you have a shredder or something similar? If yes, go to 3
3. Locate the virus path if it stated in the antivirus
4. Shred the virus or infected files.

No shredder?
Then you might have to reinstall or repair Windows with the Install disk.
