I have Virus Busters appearing every day on my desktop telling me that I am
infected and join Virus Busters to sort the problem.
As I am fully covered my system I don't need this.
How do I prevent this?
I hesitate to send them an email which would confirm my address
Blair

What you have is spyware. At time the difference between it an a virus eludes
me as they both rob you of your computing asset. Try some of the excelent
free products for ridding spyware out there. Spybot, adaware and even the
devils (microsoft) own defender

Thanks I will download one of them

Asked and answered in the other newsgroup to which you posted. Please
don't multipost; it makes more work for everyone and will get you
*less* help, not more. See this for why:

So next time do a crosspost.

Here's the answer I gave you before:

To add to what the rest have said to you...

As I am fully covered...

Obviously not. While you've already been given directions to clear that one
bit of malware out, who knows how much more has gone past your unscalable
wall of security?

There is a nice tool for Windows XP called SafeXP. It allows you to
disable unneeded services easily. You can disable Windows Messenger
Spam (which is likely what is bugging you) as well as MSN Messenger.
You can block a lot of other things too.

Safe surfing and installation practices beat software solutions hands down.
Just an added bit of experience for you if you'd like to take it to heart.

I had the same problem until I used the following program SmitfraudFix
Firstly use option 1
Then boot your pc on safemode trough the F8 or F5 key
Relance the same program and this time select option 2
There you go the spam is killed

You'll probably get SmitfraudFix from the internet after an obvious
search on google

good luck
cheers

Thanks mokhta. After trying all the suggestions from others and failing to
stop the malware I tried your suggestion and touch wood nothing has appeared
again. Its such a simple programme with no bells and whistles.
very grateful to you
Blair
