Virus Alert from IE6 "W32.PCR"

Opened and email from Hotmail and got a small pop-up
from "Microsoft - Internet Explore" informing me that the
W32.PCR virus was detected and asked to click for a viruc
scan. I ran Norton's Anti-Virus and found nothing. Is
this warning a legitimate warning from MS or a hoax?
 
Microsoft never sends attachments in the mail.
Your Virus protection helped you.

SO DO NOT OPEN ANY NEW MESSAGES WITH AN ATTACHMENT FROM MICROSOFT.
