virtual pc and older software

Is a virtual PC the answer to running older software on a Vista machine? I
have Windows XP and have been told that my business software will not run on
the Vista operating system. Will I need my own OEM version of Windows XP to
install as a virtual OS on my new Vista machine?

Yes you will need a ligit copy of Windows XP to install it properly .. but
there is something else you can try if you have a bit of patients. If your
business software is on a cd .. I would make a copy of it on your hard drive
first .. then look through the folders and right click on setup.exe (or the
install program) go to properties and then the compatibility tab and change
it to Windows XP compatibilty and click ok. Try installing again.. if there
is still a problem .. go through the folders again and change the
compatibility on all .exe (and possibly .msi ) files to windows xp .. if it
installs see if the program runs .. if not .. you may have to go to the
installed directory and also change all the exe's to Windows XP
compatibility. I have gotten a few programs that aren't supposed to run in
Vista to run this way. One note tho... if this software uses any 'drivers'
or 'services' .. you may not have success.

Good luck,
John
