Does anyone have ang suggestions for the best Virtual Memory settings for
XP?

It is that I just installed a further 512 chip and it seems to make no
diffreence, even after all the notes I read, said that more RAM will speed
things up.
The machine has an Intel 1.8Ghz chip.

I have 1.12GB on RAM installed. - 2*512's and a 128.

How much RAM you need depends on your workload. If you had 512 MB
previously, it is quite likely that added RAM is doing nothing, except
cache a few more files on the pretty unlikely chance that they might be

Despite how often that statement (more RAM will speed things up)
is repeated, it is not necessarily true. If the apps you run
result in your significantly using the page file, adding RAM will
eliminate or decrease that page file use and speed up the
computer substantially. But on the other hand, if you have enough
RAM to never or seldom use the page file, adding RAM will do
almost nothing for you and is a waste of money.

So it depends on what apps you run. For most people running a
common range of business apps, 512MB is already more than enough
RAM to keep you from using the page file, and any more is a
waste. But if, for example, you edit large photographic images
(which takes a lot memory), more RAM can be very beneficial.

So it's likely that your use wasn't such that the extra 512MB did
anything for you.

By the way, virtual memory settings are highly unlikely to make
any difference in your situation; since you apparently have much
more RAM than you need, you seldom if ever use the page file, and
changing its settings wouldn't matter much.
