With only running a couple of web pages and a small office program, the
virtual memory warning comes up stating that the set page (XP Home default)
is too small.

There has to be something wrong here because our new PC is more powerful
than our old one which never had this problem.

Our specs:
AMD Athlon XP2200
480MB system memory (the missing 32MB is used for the on-board graphics
chip).
Page file: 1336MB (146MB available as I type)

Thanks for your attention and any help you can give us.

See the Problems section at www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm to see if one
may be relevant. I have also seen it suggested recently that Norton AV
2004 has this effect - soon after boot, so if you have that, try
disabling it
