Virtual Memory Paging File

B

Brian

While browsing a site that contains many photo images, I frequently
get a message saying something like, "...virtual memory is low.
Windows is increasing the Virtual Memory Paging File." Is there any
setting in Internet Explorer that can be changed so that this message
will occur less frequently?

Thanks,

Brian

System Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced > Virtual
Memory Change
Choose 'Custom Size' and you can set the size of the page file so that
windows won't have to resize it while you're working. How much RAM do you
have?

Try making the minimum 100MB and the maximum 600MB. I think Windows will
automatically set the size at 1.5 times your RAM, so maybe you should try to
increase this size. I'm not sure exactly how this all works, but I do know
that you can't really do any harm by changing these settings. Just don't
completely turn off the page file.

Also, I think the only disadvantage to having a large maximum for the page
file is that Windows reserves this disk space, so that even if you don't
need it for the virtual memory, you still can't use it for anything else. I
guess this is why there is the option to let Windows manage the page file
size: windows will try not to reserve more space than is needed.

I have 512RAM, with the page file set with a minimum of 100 and maximum of
600.

Go ahead and play with the settings.
