Is there some documentation of how views work for Outlook 2003. I use
multiple windows and have multiple views. I update things in the view
(sort, move column around, etc.) sometimes in the columns or through
Defines views. It seems sometimes views are saved while other times
they are not either in the current folder or across multiple folders.
I'm just looking to see if there is some description of how views work
and what is saved and when so I have a better understanding of how they
work.

It's probably easier to learn by trial and error (and observation) than to
try explain views in detail.

The basis are:

There are two types of views - the global views and current views. Global
apply to all folders, current view is a customization of the global that
applies only to the current folder. Most of the options under Modify (in
Define Views) apply to only to the view you are modifying. A few, like Shade
Group Headers, applies to all views.

To edit a global view, select the named view in define views.

To edit the folder's view, use custom (right click on the row of field
names, select it from the menu), or Customize Current View (from the Views,
Arrange By menu) or select <<current view>> from the top of the define
views list.

Once a current view is edited, it is separated from the global view (it's
stored as a hidden file in the folder) and a change to the global view (from
another folder) won't affect the same view in the current folder, unless you
use the /cleanviews switch and clear out all custom views or reset the view
from Define views dialog. This deletes the hidden file and uses the default
global version of the view.
