Viewing multiple worksheets

Lewis SHanks

I have Excel 2000, and Word 2003. I also have two monitors to view multiple
files. In Word I can view multiple documents at the same time, such as one
document on one monitor and another on the other. In Excel, however, I am
unable to view two documents (worksheets) in the same way as above. Is this
because it is the 2000 version or is there a view feature I can select for
this?
Thanks

Open a separate instance of Excel. You should then be able to put one
instance on one monitor and the second instance on the other monitor. By
"separate instance" I mean when Excel is open, go to the programs menu and
open Excel again. This will allow you to place them on different monitors.

I don't own multiple monitors, but I've read posts that say you can open one
instance of excel and resize the application to cover both monitors.

The open the two files and arrange/drag the second window to the second monitor.

You can also use window|new window and arrange the windows of the active
workbook.

Dave is right. You have to leave Excel not maximized or it'll maximize to only one monitor
(at least mine does that). Then with the application (Excel) window stretched across both
monitors, you can use Window - Arrange - Vertical, or manually size the document (workbook)
windows.

"Works fine -- lasts a long time."

Perfect solution gentlemen. So simple and it worked just fine - thank you.

I still don't understand why this works differently in Word, but maybe it is
the 2003 version?

Thanks much

I still prefer opening a second instance of Excel to accomplish viewing two
workbooks on different monitors. When you resize one instance so that it
takes up both monitors, it's just a hassle because then you have to minimize
the workbook (not Excel) as well adjust the size of each workbook to suit
your viewing needs. Then when you're done, if you don't set it back, Excel
will continue to open spanned across both monitors. I've done it both ways
and prefer the two instances method.

Paul

Lewis,

It does seem to work the same way in Word 2003. You may have a different setting for
"Windows in taskbar" between the two programs (Tools - Options - View). Also, Word, when
using the Window - Arrange command, doesn't give any choices (vertical, horizontal, etc.) as
does Excel. It just arranges the windows horizontally.
