I noticed that weeks ago I could simply click at a site with an MPEG file
and view it without having to download it.

Now I am forced (at least at one site) to download it. What can I change of
anything to have Vista automatically open it and view it from the remote
site.

Thanks, DH

I should give more information, the file extension is tv ( *.tv ). I do
not see it listed in File Associations.

Suggestions? Thanks, DH

No one responded .... but in the meantime I tried a few things and 'solved'
my problem.

I went to Start \ Default Programs \ Set program access and program defaults
.... and reset a few items.

In the future I'll have a better idea what to do when this happens again.

Do you have Nero on this system? I'd be interested in knowing what third
party player might have caused this by misregistering the file association.
=\

I had installed a 'video' program - a well known program though I can't
remember the name at the moment, uninstalled it, but it didn't revert the
settings back to Media Player. I did this manually and then everything was
OK.

It would be great if in these situations, Windows would prompt the user
with - I see you do not have a program associated with this file - let's
take a look .... instead of simply asking me if I want to save the file to
the hard drive. Had I not known where to look, I would have been really
confused.

Problem solved. Thanks.

There actually is an association set up, but that third party player has
broken the association - running that step simply has WMP rebuild the
association. Since that requires administrative privileges, there's not a
great solution *readily* available other than that.
