This .mix file is an image file from a digital camera, which I can't open.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

TIA,
RR

You probably have a Microsoft "Picture It" file. That format has come up
for discussion before. . .

There's a ***17*** page thread about opening Microsoft's .mix files
here (it ain't easy):

[OT] WARNING - $ware ahead. . .

the answer is PolyView http://www.polybytes.com/

PolyView is distributed as Shareware. Please try it out to determine if
it fits your needs. If you decide you like PolyView and want to keep it
and use it, you are obligated to purchase a registration license.

OK. I think Susan Bugher has provided you with some links to help you
on your way.

FWIW I'd be very wary of buying/using a digital camera which produced
odd image formats. My own Canon camera produces standard .jpg or .raw
files, both easily opened FOC.

So its OK for Susan to mention OT payware products when freeware doesn't
seem appropriate ?? Anyone else gets lynched for that.

Feel free to flame me whenever you like. You don't need to take a poll
first. . . ;)

OK I'll start, I'm surprised and disappointed that you felt the need to
recommend shareware in this group. I think you made and error of judgement
and should know better.
On the other hand, I would like to thank you for all your hard work this
year, and to wish you and yours a happy and safe new year.

I thought it was warranted given a rather special set of circumstances.
There is reason to suppose there is no Freeware that can open these
files. That was a prime consideration. See:

I agree with the poster: it was truly sucky of Microsoft to abandon the
..MIX format *AND* leave people with no way to open their .MIX files
because Microsoft would not allow others to write code that could open
them. (The author of IrfanView told me the latter.)

IIRC there also aren't many Shareware apps that can open these files. I
posted this a on Oct. 1, 2003 in response to a question about .mix
files. "I did some scouting around and AFAIK there are ***2***
programs that can open and batch convert MIX files - and neither one is
freeware."

IMO in this case it made sense to furnish an [OT] solution for the OP.

YMMV. . .

Happy New Year to you bambam and to everyone else in ACF. :)
