hello all, i'm having quite a weird problem. we have remote offices that
connects to our main through sonicwall VPN's. one such computer at one such
location does not show anything when you click on view worgroup computers.
all the other computers in that direct office can see all other computers.
unfortunately the computer with this problem is the main computer and most of
the other ones print it it's printer, since this is happening printer sharing
is not working. I have tried every possible thing i can think of, i have
never seen this before. I'm confident someone out there know much more than
me though

You could start with some more detail about the location itself specifically,
and the network in particular. Do you have a domain, or workgroup? Or multiple
workgroups? Did this problem just start? What changes were made immediately
previous? How long has the network been setup as it is right now? How many
computers at the location in question? How many computers total?

This sounds like a browser problem. The browser provides the information
displayed when you click on view workgroup computers.

Browser problems are frequently symptoms of greater problems - like a
misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or other security component.
There are several other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your
problem. Read this article with an open mind.

Or just provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from the problem computer,
and from 2 properly working computers, so we can diagnose the problem. Read
this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download
browstat!):

we have a workgroup, though we're progressing closer and closer to domain,
we've recently created active directory accounts for Exchange. that location
has four compunters, all of which are on the same workgroup as the main
office through VPN (WAN). the problem started about a week ago, to my
knowledge. This office has been setup like this for about 6 months, nothing
has changed since then. the total amount of computers is at least 150, not
even half of these are connected at the same time. I saw enable netBIOS over
TCP/IP in another solution, since those computers are in fact static i will
try that.

NetBT is pretty useful in Windows Networking, it's surprising how many computers
don't have it Enabled sometimes.
